Coppage, Leipold Lead All-America Team

UW-Whitewater senior running back Levell Coppage (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park) was named D3football.com's 2011 Offensive Player of the Year, and head coach Lance Leipold was named Coach of the Year. This is Coppage's second consecutive POY honor (2010) and Leipold's fifth consecutive Coach of the Year award (2007, 08, 09, 10, 11). Also earning All-America honors were offensive tackle Logan Allemand (Kenosha/Tremper), linebacker Greg Arnold (Big Bend/Mukwonago), defensive lineman Casey Casper (Dousman/Kettle Moraine), and quarterback Matt Blanchard (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich). All are seniors.

Coppage rushed for 2,120 yards this season on 380 carries for an average of 5.6 yards/rush, and scored 28 touchdowns. In breaking the 2,000 yard mark three seasons in a row, he became the first running back in UW-W and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history to accomplish that feat, and the first to have at least 1,000 yards rushing four seasons consecutively. In the 2011 Stagg Bowl, Coppage gained 91 yards on 32 carries for one touchdown as the Warhawks defeated the University of Mount Union 13-10 for their third straight NCAA III national championship. He ended his collegiate career with 7,795 rushing yards, second in NCAA III history and third in all levels of NCAA football history. Coppage's career scoring total of 654 points (109 rushing touchdowns) is also second in NCAA III career totals. He has a long line of honors, with four First Team WIAC honors, two-time WIAC Player of the Year (2010, 11), and four total appearances on the D3football All-America team (2008 3rd, 2009 1st, 2010 1st, 2011 1st). He was also named a 2011 All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

Helping pave the way for the offense and earning first-team recognition was tackle Logan Allemand (Kenosha/Tremper). Allemand was a First Team WIAC selection this year and an honorable mention in 2010. He was part of an offense that averaged 221.3 rushing yards per game, and an offensive line that only gave up just 14 sacks on the year. Their play helped quarterback Matt Blanchard (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) sixth in passing efficiency in NCAA III.

Arnold, a first-team selection, and Casper, second-team, were key contributors to a stingy defense that kept opponents off the scoreboard. The Warhawk defense was ranked third nationally in turnover margin (1.8/game), fifth in scoring defense (10.8 pts/game), and eleventh in passing efficiency defense (92.4) and rushing defense (87.8 yards/game).

Despite missing three games earlier this season, Arnold was second in tackles for UW-W (69), recorded four sacks, and intercepted three passes. He contributed 7.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. Casper was sixth in tackles (56) and had 9.5 tackles for loss with six sacks. He recovered one fumble and had one recovery for the Warhawks.

Blanchard, a third-team selection, was also a First Team WIAC selection this year, his second consecutive honor. He was one of four finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, the highest award given to a NCAA Division III football player. Blanchard led the Warhawk offense to an average of 420.5 yards a game, and threw for 2,852 yards on 220-319 (.690) passing for 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He finished the season sixth in passing efficiency (165.35) nationally in NCAA III.

Leipold led the Warhawks to a 15-0 record en route to the team's seventh WIAC championship and third straight NCAA III national championship and fourth in his five seasons at the helm. He was also the WIAC Coach of the Year, an honor he has earned three years running (2009, 10, 11). The Warhawks, with three consecutive 15-0 seasons, are on a 45 game win streak, the longest active streak in all NCAA football. They are two shy of tying the University of Oklahoma's 47 game win streak compiled under Bud Wilkinson from 1953-57, the fourth longest streak in NCAA (any level) football history.
